For years, we got used to the idea that if you wanted to play well, you needed to be tied to a desk with a large setup, a good graphics card, and free time. But that's a thing of the past.

In 2025, portable gaming is at its best. We no longer talk about "lite" versions or consoles with limited features: today you can have a complete gaming experience in the palm of your hand.

ROG Ally, Steam Deck, and the much-anticipated Switch 2 are setting the pace. Each with its approach, but all with the same promise: play what you want, where you want, how you want.

ASUS ROG Ally: Windows power in your backpack

  • Windows alternative, more friendly for traditional PC gamers.
  • Great screen, solid performance, full access to Game Pass.
  • Key advantage: it is a PC in console form.
  • Problems: battery, software not as optimized as Steam Deck.

Steam Deck: the spark that ignited it all

  • Released by Valve, it wasn't the first but the one that showed serious portable gaming was possible.
  • Complete PC Gaming in your hands.
  • Strengths: compatibility with Steam library, Linux, mods, dock like Switch.
  • Limitations: size, autonomy, learning curve for non-techies.

Switch 2: the most anticipated heir of casual (and not so casual) gaming

  • Nintendo returns to the ring with a very powerful hybrid successor.
  • Confirmed rumors: Nvidia chip with DLSS, backward compatibility, OLED screen, dock with 4K output.
  • Exclusives such as Zelda, Mario Kart, Metroid, and Pokémon continue to be the strongest differentiator.
