Apple Watch SE 3: everything we know about Apple’s most affordable watch

Index
The Apple Watch SE was last updated in 2022, and three years later, all signs point to the Apple Watch SE 3 making an appearance at Apple’s September 9 event. While it is still unclear whether it will keep the “SE” name, as happened with the iPhone 16e, for now we are still calling it that.
The SE model has always stood out as the most affordable Apple Watch, while keeping key features: receiving notifications, tracking workouts, answering calls, and offering safety options such as fall detection or Emergency SOS.
A familiar design, but with improvements
The design of the Apple Watch SE 3 would follow the line of previous generations, using parts from earlier models to keep the price down. Rumors suggest it could take inspiration from the Apple Watch Series 7, with thinner bezels and a more modern look, though without reaching the latest Series 10 design.
There was talk of a possible switch to plastic, but Cupertino does not want to repeat the iPhone 5c playbook. Most likely, the SE 3 will keep aluminum, which is more attractive and cost-effective from a production standpoint.

Display and sizes
The current SE comes in 40mm and 44mm. With the new generation, it is likely to move up to 41 mm and 45 mm, inheriting the Series 7 dimensions. That would bring it more in line with today’s models.
The always-on display feature would remain reserved for premium models such as the Series 10 and Ultra 2.

Sensors and health features
As for sensors, no major surprises are expected. The SE 3 would keep the heart rate monitor and could possibly add a temperature sensor, but more advanced features (blood oxygen, ECG, etc.) would remain exclusive to higher-end models.
Processor and performance
The processor is where the difference will be clear: Apple could integrate the S10 chip from the Series 10 or even the upcoming S11, ensuring a much faster watch that is ready for future versions of watchOS. With either chip, the leap over the SE 2 will be substantial.

Battery and charging
Battery life would remain around one day, but with the advantage of fast charging: from 0% to 80% in just 30 minutes, as on the latest models.
Models, colors, and connectivity
As usual, it will be offered in two sizes and with GPS or Cellular options for mobile data connectivity. The most likely colors are: midnight, starlight, and silver.
Release date and price
The Apple Watch SE 3 would be introduced alongside the Series 11 and Ultra 3 at the September 9 event.
Current Apple Watch SE price (reference)
- Apple Watch SE (2nd gen) 40mm: USD 249
- Apple Watch SE (2nd gen) 44mm: USD 299
It remains to be seen whether Apple will adjust the price up or down depending on the design and chip it ultimately includes, but it will continue to be the most affordable option in the Apple Watch family.
