Fourth-generation Apple TV 4K: A19, Siri AI, and a new remote

Index
The fourth-generation Apple TV 4K adds A19, AV1 decoding, three far-field microphones, and a Siri Remote that can play a sound so you can find it. It costs US$299 and arrives on November 13, 2026. To decide whether upgrading makes sense, it is important to separate what is exclusive to the new hardware from the features that previous models will also receive.

Apple introduced it as part of the Welcome Home 2026 announcements. Its role combines playback, gaming, and the home hub, with a new surround sound setup using four HomePod speakers.
Apple TV 4K: what changes in the fourth generation
The new box keeps its TV connection and expands in three areas: performance with A19, voice control from across the room, and audio with four compatible speakers. Siri AI is not exclusive to this generation: Apple is also offering it in beta for Apple TV 4K starting with the second generation.

If your device plays your content well, that distinction helps you avoid buying a new box just for a software feature. If the goal is to expand living room audio, the hardware change does become part of the decision.
A19 and AV1: where the improvement shows
Apple claims up to 50% faster CPU performance and up to twice the GPU performance compared with the previous generation. Those are processor figures; they do not mean every app will open twice as fast or that a movie will gain resolution.
The dedicated AV1 decoder enables efficient streaming when a service delivers content with that codec. The improvement depends on the catalog and the app: it does not automatically convert everything you play to AV1.
The technical specifications confirm 128 GB, Wi-Fi 7, Gigabit Ethernet, Thread, and HDMI 2.1. It keeps Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and 4K video at up to 60 frames per second. The HDMI cable is sold separately.
Siri AI and voice without picking up the remote
The official announcement confirms Siri AI in beta with tvOS 27.2 for Apple TV 4K starting with the second generation. It begins in English in eight markets, including the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom.
The new version enables conversational searches and questions about what you are watching. Requests with personal context require a compatible iPhone or iPad with Apple Intelligence, paired and configured. The Siri AI features help distinguish those requirements from conventional search.
The three far-field microphones do belong to the fourth generation. The initial list of languages supported for speaking to them includes English, French, German, and others, but not Spanish. It is worth checking that condition before buying for remote-free use.
Siri Remote with Find My
The new remote keeps the clickpad and adds a speaker so it can play a sound when it gets lost. It also supports Precision Finding from a compatible iPhone, with limited regional availability.

Apple specifies iPhone Duo, iPhone Air, and iPhone 17 or later, except iPhone 17e, with updated software. General Find My compatibility with previous remotes is not the same as having precise guidance or a built-in speaker.

The Siri Remote is also sold separately and works with Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K. If your problem is finding the remote, consider that accessory before replacing a player that already does its job.
Four HomePod speakers for the living room
The system supports four HomePod mini 2 or second-generation HomePod speakers, with matching models within each front and rear pair. Apple TV calibrates levels and synchronization based on speaker position.

Four mini 2 speakers at US$149 plus the Apple TV total US$895. If you already have a pair of full-size HomePod speakers, you can reuse them in front and complete the rear pair. The cost changes depending on the devices you keep.
The product page also presents Whole Room Audio to distribute sound across the four speakers. It is useful to think first about the room and power points: the number of units alone does not prove it will outperform the system you already use.
Apple Home on the big screen
Apple TV continues to work as a hub for automations, remote access, and HomeKit Secure Video processing. It can show cameras, notifications from a compatible doorbell, and controls for other accessories without leaving the living room experience.

The Ethernet connection lets you integrate it into the network by cable; Thread connects compatible accessories. If you already have a hub doing that job, evaluate what additional need the new Apple TV solves before duplicating functions.
Games, FaceTime, and calibration
Apple Arcade, Fitness+, photos, and FaceTime expand the TV's uses. FaceTime uses Continuity Camera with a compatible iPhone or iPad; some services require subscriptions, and availability varies by market.

Color balance adjustment uses a compatible iPhone to measure and correct the Apple TV output. Apple's calibration guide describes that tool; it does not replace calibration for every TV input.

Price and release date
The cost of the player also includes the HDMI cable, if you need it, and the speakers or subscriptions you want to use. To calculate an upgrade, separate those expenses from the equipment you can already reuse.
Who should upgrade
The fourth generation makes more sense for anyone who wants four HomePod speakers, needs AV1, or will take advantage of gaming and voice control in a supported language. These are improvements that can change how the living room is used.
If your current Apple TV plays content well and is compatible with Siri AI, try the software update first. If you only want to stop losing the remote, the standalone Siri Remote offers a more targeted solution. Buying the full device makes sense when it solves a specific limitation in your setup.
