HomeView Wall Mounted: design, mounts, and where to install it

5 min read
HomeView Wall Mounted installed on a wall

HomeView Wall Mounted frees up surfaces and turns entryways, hallways, or kitchens into permanent control points. It costs US$299, but without a mount or power: the functional minimum starts at US$358.95 and may require electrical installation.

The room determines the mount, the height, and whether it is worth giving up the bass speaker in the base.

What changes versus the tabletop HomeView

Wall Mounted keeps the 7-inch Liquid Retina display, A18, 12MP camera, recognition for up to six people, Apple Home, and Siri AI features.

The wall-mounted enclosure integrates two transducers and comes in silver or space gray. The tabletop model adds bass and passive radiators in the base; it cannot later be converted into Wall Mounted.

Where to install HomeView Wall Mounted

A wall that is visible as you pass by and within touch reach is best, not a distant TV location or a blocked work area.

Before drilling, it is worth testing the height with a 7-inch template and viewing it from the real positions of use. The sight line changes between an entryway, where you check it while standing, and a kitchen or desk, where it is usually viewed from a lower surface.

Entryway or hallway. Useful for cameras, locks, climate, and scenes when entering or leaving. It is best to avoid direct reflections; The Wall Street Journal saw this use in the first demonstration.

Kitchen. Keeps recipes, timers, and lists off the countertop. It should be close to the prep area, but away from steam, grease, and splashes.

Living room. Controls lights, music, and cameras, although it overlaps with Apple TV. It works better on a circulation wall than next to the TV.

Bedroom. Its 0.3 nits allow nighttime use, preferably on one side of the bed. For music, alarms, and voice, a speaker without a screen is less intrusive.

Desk. FaceTime, calendars, and controls complement the Mac, as long as the camera sits at a comfortable height; Center Stage does not fix a bad perspective.

In bathrooms, open galleries, or areas directly exposed to water, it is better to rule it out: Apple does not present HomeView as a weather-resistant product. An available wall is not enough; the environment must also be suitable for indoor electronics.

Design and colors of the wall-mounted HomeView

The enclosure leaves the aluminum profile visible and hides the mount behind the display, as long as the wiring is properly handled.

Silver works well with light walls; space gray blends in with dark switches or wood. The reduced palette reinforces its architectural role versus the tabletop model.

The official announcement suggests entryways and hallways. The center of the display should sit close to the sight line, especially if FaceTime will be used.

Its orientation relative to windows and light fixtures also matters. True Tone adapts the image, but it does not eliminate direct reflections; moving the display a few centimeters can be more effective than permanently raising the brightness.

What mount HomeView Wall Mounted needs

Schneider Home offers three solutions for different installations.

Power Mount AC Wired mount for HomeView

Power Mount USB-C mount for HomeView

  • Power Mount USB-C, US$59.95: requires a nearby outlet and leaves the cable visible unless it is routed through a channel.
  • Power Mount AC Wired, US$79.95: provides a clean finish, but should be installed by a qualified person.
  • Power Mount PoE Wired, US$129.95: will carry data and power over Ethernet starting in early 2027; it is aimed at construction projects or professional installations.

Apple sells the device without a mount. The Verge noted that the “no mount” option does not let you use it: mounting and power are mandatory.

USB-C is the only reasonably reversible alternative. AC and PoE require planning electrical boxes, cable runs, and maintenance access; in a rented home, they may not justify the cleaner finish.

How much it costs to install HomeView Wall Mounted

The total is US$358.95 with USB-C, US$378.95 with AC, or US$428.95 with PoE, before labor and wall repair.

The calculation includes the device, mount, and installation. USB-C simplifies things; AC hides the cable better; PoE is the most stable option for multiple units, but also the most expensive.

For wired installations, it is worth budgeting for labor before buying the device. The cheapest mount stops being an advantage if it later requires raceways, paint repair, or relocating an outlet.

HomeView Wall Mounted makes sense when the wall improves the experience

The wall-mounted version makes sense in an entryway, hallway, or kitchen when it is checked several times a day and freeing up a surface matters more than the added bass. It also fits construction projects where power can be planned in advance.

In a living room with Apple TV and HomePod, or a bedroom without a fixed location, the tabletop model offers more flexibility and better bass. Wall Mounted is worth it when permanence was planned from the beginning.
