Apple launched the iPhone 17 as the most accessible option in its new generation. It keeps the essence of the lineup, but adds improvements to the display, cameras, and battery life. The idea is clear: a powerful, long-lasting iPhone without the exclusive features reserved for the Air and Pro.

Models and variants

Available in a single 6.3-inch size, with three storage configurations: 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB, permanently eliminating the 128 GB option. In markets such as the United States, it is sold exclusively with eSIM, while in markets such as Latin America it keeps the physical SIM tray alongside eSIM support.

Colors and finishes

Available in five colors: black, white, mist blue, sage, and lavender. All feature a matte finish that resists fingerprints and scratches.

Design and build

The design remains faithful to the language introduced in the previous generation, with flat edges and a recycled aluminum frame, but now with thinner display bezels, moving closer to the Pro look without adopting the titanium finish. The device weighs 185 grams, making it comfortable for everyday use. The matte-finish back keeps the diagonal dual-camera module that sets it apart from the Air and Pro.

Ceramic Shield 2 adds extra protection against impacts and scratches, reinforcing its position as the toughest glass in a smartphone.

Chip and performance

It features the A19 with a 6-core CPU and 5-core GPU, delivering up to 20% higher performance than the A18 and better energy efficiency. The Neural Engine powers artificial intelligence and computational photography features, optimizing both the iOS 26 experience and night shots.

Display and protection

The iPhone 17 debuts a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display with OLED that now includes ProMotion up to 120 Hz, a long-awaited feature that makes scrolling, gaming, and gestures look much smoother. Peak brightness reaches 2,500 nits, improving visibility in sunlight, while protection is handled by Ceramic Shield 2, which is more resistant to impacts and scratches, accompanied by IP68 certification for water and dust resistance.

Cameras

The iPhone 17 keeps a dual 48 MP system (main + ultra wide), but with notable improvements in low-light photography and Smart HDR, thanks to the A19. The built-in 2x optical zoom enables sharper close-ups without losing detail, a practical upgrade over the iPhone 16.

The 18 MP front camera debuts the Front Center system, which automatically centers the user in video calls and recordings, delivering more consistent selfies and 4K video with HDR, something previously exclusive to the Pro lineup.

Battery and battery life

The iPhone 17 offers better battery life than the previous generation, reaching up to 20 hours of video playback. The efficiency of the A19 enables high performance without sacrificing power, and the fast-charging system reaches 50% in 30 minutes with a compatible adapter. It also supports MagSafe wireless charging, ideal for those who already own accessories from the Apple ecosystem.

Connectivity

It includes 5G, Wi‑Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6, ensuring faster and more stable connections. It works with eSIM in certain markets, while in others it keeps the physical SIM tray alongside eSIM support.

Accessories

Compatible with official MagSafe cases and covers, wireless chargers, and straps designed for secure carrying. It does not include a power adapter in the box, following Apple’s sustainability policy, but maintains compatibility with USB‑C chargers and previous accessories.

Three case options for the device: a solid purple silicone case, a clear case with the MagSafe ring in white, and a small black pouch attached to a long hanging strap.

Price and availability

The base iPhone 17 starts at $799 USD for the 256 GB version, increasing depending on storage capacity. It is available for immediate pre-order in several markets and arrives in physical and online stores in the coming days. Compared with the iPhone 17 Pro, it offers most of the essential upgrades at a more accessible price, ideal for users who want performance without the premium features of the high-end lineup.
