Apple will unveil the iPhone 17 family on September 9, 2025, with launch expected one week later. This new generation will include four variants: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air (replacing the Plus), iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Design and materials

  • iPhone 17: similar aesthetics to the previous model, with a vertically aligned rear camera.
  • iPhone 17 Air: ultra-thin (~5.5 mm), with a single 48 MP camera and an aluminum-and-glass body.
  • Pro and Pro Max: a rectangular rear camera module spanning the width of the device, instead of the classic square “bump,” with aluminum and glass materials (moving away from titanium).
  • A new vapor-chamber cooling system is mentioned for the Pro models, along with a possible aesthetic based on “Liquid Glass” that would reflect shifting tones depending on the light.

Colors and finishes

  • iPhone 17 (standard): black, white, steel gray, green, purple, and light blue.

  • iPhone 17 Air: black, white (cooler/brighter), light blue, and light gold.

  • Pro / Pro Max: black, white, gray (natural titanium-like), dark blue, and a “papaya” orange.

  • Rumors also highlight a “Liquid Glass” version for the Pro models, with a finish that reflects and changes depending on the light.

Displays and technical specifications

All versions feature 120 Hz ProMotion displays and LTPO technology with Always-On display on the Pro models.

Sizes:

  • iPhone 17 and 17 Pro: 6.3 inches
  • iPhone 17 Air: 6.5 inches
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max: 6.9 inches

Processors:

  • Pro and Pro Max with A19 Pro and 12 GB of RAM
  • Standard iPhone 17: A19 (or A18) with 8 GB
  • Air would also share A19 variants, but with fewer GPU cores

The Pro Max battery would reach 5,000 mAh.

Wireless charging improvements with 45 W MagSafe.

Front camera: resolution increased to 24 MP.

Pro Max: 48 MP telephoto with up to 8× optical zoom, a Pixel-style camera module, and a new Pro Camera app.

Conclusion

The iPhone 17 lineup is shaping up to be a significant refresh: an ultra-thin Air model, visual improvements with ProMotion + Always-On, a redesigned Pro aesthetic with a full-width camera, new materials, and a bolder color palette. Add to that upgrades in performance (A19 Pro), battery, cameras, and charging. Everything points to a September 2025 event with plenty of compelling new features.
