iPhone 18 Pro and Duo accessories: the attachment points are the real news, not the cases

Alongside the phones, Apple refreshed its accessory lineup at the September presentation: three cases for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, two for the iPhone Duo, a wallet, and two new straps. Prices range from US$29 to US$129.

The part that changes everyday use the most is not any case. It is the two attachment points now built into the cases, and what you can hang from them.

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max cases

There are three, and all three include MagSafe. The Clear Case is made of optically clear polycarbonate. The TechWoven Case is woven on a Jacquard loom with 100% recycled polyester. The Silicone Case is the familiar one, with a microfiber lining.

TechWoven comes in six colors, and the silicone version in five. Both phone models get the same lineup, so the choice is about material rather than size.

The attachment points are the real news

All three cases include connection points for attaching a strap. It is a small change to the case and a big one in how the phone is carried: with two points in use, it goes crossbody; with just one, it hangs from the wrist.

The FineWoven Wallet magnetically attaches on top as usual, so the case can carry both a wallet and a strap at the same time. That is the combination Apple shows in its own materials, and it explains why the attachment points are at the bottom rather than on the side.

Wrist Strap and Crossbody Strap

The Wrist Strap costs US$29 and is made with recycled PET yarn. The Crossbody Strap costs US$59 and comes in nine colors, the broadest palette in the entire accessory set.

Here is the detail most coverage overlooks: the Wrist Strap is not just for the phone. Apple highlighted its compatibility with the AirPods Pro 3, and the official photo shows it hanging from the case. At US$29, it is an accessory that solves two different problems, and the second is the one more people have: losing the earbud case.

The iPhone Duo case

It costs US$79, is made of polycarbonate with a matte finish, and comes in two colors: navy and taupe. It covers both halves of the device and leaves the fold exposed, which is the only way a rigid case can work on a foldable.

Closed, it looks like a normal phone with a case, and that is a big part of the appeal: the extra bulk is distributed across both halves instead of being concentrated on one.

The iPhone Duo Folio with stand

It is the most expensive accessory in the set: US$129, also in two colors, navy and sand. It adds an integrated folding stand that holds the device upright in landscape orientation, which is what a foldable needs to work as a desktop screen or to watch something without holding it.

At US$129, it costs more than the three 18 Pro cases combined. It is expensive measured against a case, and reasonable measured against what it adds: the only way to use the Duo hands-free.

To put the range in perspective, Apple has US$9 accessories in its catalog and others that exceed US$2,000. This set sits in the middle tier.

Which one makes sense for your use

If you are going to buy just one thing, make it the Wrist Strap. It costs US$29, works for the phone and for the AirPods Pro 3 case, and it is the accessory that most changes the habit of grabbing the phone.

If you want the case that best withstands daily use, choose TechWoven. The fabric does not yellow like clear polycarbonate or collect lint like silicone.

If you buy the Duo and plan to use it as a screen, the Folio with stand is the right purchase, even if the price hurts. The simple US$79 case protects it just as well, but it does not solve the problem of keeping the device upright.

And if the phone is almost always in your hand, the Clear Case is still the one that least hides the titanium color, which is what you paid extra for.

Frequently asked questions

Do the iPhone 18 Pro cases work on the iPhone 17 Pro?

9to5Mac reported that they do, saying the new cases fit the 17 Pro. Apple does not state this in the announcement materials, so treat it as a report rather than confirmed information: before buying, it is worth trying one in store.

Does the Crossbody Strap need a special case?

It needs a case with attachment points. All three iPhone 18 Pro cases include them, so any of them will work. An older case without those points cannot attach the strap.

Can you use the wallet and the strap at the same time?

Yes. The wallet attaches magnetically via MagSafe, and the strap hooks into the case’s attachment points, which are two separate systems. Apple’s official photos show both installed at the same time.
